The Dragons of Hurricane Iniki

Once upon a time there was a dragon and his family. The dad was named Kai. The mother’s name was Lily. The children’s names were Marco and Polo.

They lived in the ocean by Japan. They loved Japan, but also wanted to see other places and explore, so they decided to move to Kauai. They were swimming in the ocean, and felt rough seas above them, it was a hurricane named Iniki. It was a really bad storm.  They knew they had to get to Kauai fast, so they swam as hard as they could. Right as they got close to Kauai, Kai was thrown in the air and fell down on a rock. He felt it shake, and he fell in the hole it made. He quickly got up and found his family, they had made it safely. They decided that the hole actually made a pretty good home and decided to rest there. Their hold made for a nice home because it was a cave under rocks, they had their own swimming hole and a little beach at the back.

The dragon family lived there for a few months and loved their home. Sometimes the waves got big and would crash over the rocks and come down the hole. One day a fisherman came in and he decided to fish in their hole. The dragons saw some bait come down from above and decided it made a good snack, they also worried that someone was going to get hurt on the rocks. When the fisherman realized his bait was gone, he put more on his line and threw it back down in the hole, Kai got worried and jumped up and the water exploded up with him. The fisherman was surprised. Kai caught the fisherman as Lily roared, Marco and Polo hid in the back of their rock cave.

The fisherman was scared. He grabbed his fishing pole and he started whacking the dragon. The dragon got mad, why was he hitting him? The fisherman froze while the dragon roared. The fisherman wanted to get out of there as fast as he could, so he got an idea. He threw the bait up on the shore, so the dragon would go get it, and he could sneak away.

But the dragon didn’t go. To the fisherman’s surprise the dragon talked. The dragon roared, “why are you hurting me when I am trying to save you.”
The fisherman said “you’re not trying to save me, you’re trying to eat me.”The dragon roared again “there’s a big wave coming and I want to save you.”The fisherman was surprised, and asked why the dragon roared. The dragon said the roar was meant to warn you.The fisherman said “oh thank you.” “Can we be friends?”The dragon said, ROAR,ROAR, and the fisherman asked what that meant. The dragon said it means “yes.”
From that day forward, the dragons would warn any fishermen to be careful of waves on the rocks.
The End

Gumble of Hanapepe (test story)

In the little town of Hanapepe, there was an artist named Lani who loved painting with every color of the rainbow. Lani’s studio was like a magical treasure chest, with walls bursting in bright yellows, sparkling blues, and twinkling pinks. One day, he decided to share his love for art by hosting a creativity day for the kids in town. He planned games, gave out paintbrushes, and even set up a giant mural for everyone to work on together. The kids giggled and splattered paint everywhere, making swirls of oranges, greens, and purples that looked like dreams coming to life.

But not everyone was happy. Some of the older folks in Hanapepe grumbled about the colors being “too wild” and not fitting the town’s quiet vibe. “This isn’t how things used to look!” they said, crossing their arms. Lani listened kindly and invited them to try painting a flower or even just a tiny dot. Hesitant at first, one grandpa picked up a brush and painted a sunset. Seeing how it sparkled like the Hanapepe skies, the others joined in too. Soon, the mural wasn’t just for kids—it became a piece of art that everyone, young and old, could enjoy together. Lani’s colors brought the whole town a little closer, one brushstroke at a time.

The Nene Goose Protectors

Once upon a time there were two girls named Emalani and Leila. And there was one boy named Derek. Derek loved chasing chickens, birds, and his favorite bird of all, a Hawaiian bird called a nene goose. Every day Derek would chase them, but one day Emi and Leila had an idea. They were gonna trick Derek to stop him from chasing them. First the girls got Derek. Next they showed him a mama nene with babies. Then Derek ran over and chased the nenes but the mama goose turned and chased Derek, looking scary. Derek ran away like a baby! The nene then stopped chasing Derek and walked away with her babies, After that he never chased a bird ever again. Emi and Leila felt happy!  The end!

A Platform That Gives Children a Voice

At Stories By Kids, we firmly believe that every child has a story worth telling. From fairy tales and fables to personal experiences, the stories children create are filled with boundless imagination and emotion. However, many young writers face challenges when it comes to finding a space to share their work and get the recognition they deserve. Our platform was built to provide that exact space.

How It Works: Submitting Your Child’s Story

Our submission process is straightforward and designed to encourage children to submit their work with ease. Here’s how it works:

  • Creating an Account: To get started, parents or guardians can create an account on our platform. This ensures that each submission is properly managed and credited to the young author.
  • Submitting the Story: Once the account is created, children can submit their stories in a variety of formats. Whether it’s a short story, a poem, or a fictional narrative, our platform welcomes all types of written work.
  • Story Review and Publication: After submission, our team reviews each story to ensure it aligns with the platform’s guidelines. Once approved, the story is published for readers to enjoy.
  • Encouraging Engagement: After publication, stories are shared on the platform for readers, parents, and educators to engage with. Kids can receive positive feedback, comments, and encouragement from the community, which helps build their confidence and passion for writing.

The Benefits of Publishing Kids’ Stories Online

The advantages of publishing children’s stories online go beyond just giving them a platform to be heard. Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Develops Writing Skills: Writing is a skill that improves with practice. By encouraging children to submit their stories and publish them online, they develop their writing skills, critical thinking, and storytelling abilities.
  • Fosters Creativity: The process of coming up with story ideas, developing characters, and creating plotlines enhances a child’s creativity. They learn to think outside the box, explore their imaginations, and bring their ideas to life.
  • Boosts Confidence: Seeing their name on a published piece gives children a sense of pride and accomplishment. It encourages them to continue writing and expressing themselves. Having their work shared with a broader audience gives them a boost of confidence, which is vital for their personal growth.
  • Instills a Love for Reading and Writing: Publishing kids’ stories on a blog platform not only nurtures their writing skills but also sparks a love for reading and writing. As children see the impact their words have on others, they become more motivated to continue writing, reading, and expanding their knowledge.
  • A Legacy for the Future: The stories written by children today have the potential to inspire future generations. By creating a platform for these stories to be shared and celebrated, we are helping to build a lasting legacy that encourages creativity, education, and imagination.
